Course overview

Course overview

The course builds solid modelling technique in 3ds Max — poly modelling, modifiers and UV mapping — and applies it to buildings, interiors and furniture that are ready for rendering and animation.

The 3ds max programme at techcadd Amritsar is built the way the work is actually done: you handle the data, train and break the models, then ship something that runs. Tools such as 3ds Max, AutoCAD, V-Ray are installed on your own machine in week one, not shown on a slide in week ten.

It runs across 2 – 3 months with morning, evening and weekend batches, and every module closes in a reviewable artefact. By the end you hold a certificate, a portfolio, and the ability to talk through your own decisions in an interview for a 3d modeller role.

Module by module curriculum
6 modules, each ending in something reviewable that goes into your portfolio.
  1. Module 01 of 06

    Interface & Scene Setup

Interface & Scene Setup is where the 3ds Max track gets its footing. You work the concepts in the lab first, then carry them straight into the running project rather than leaving them as isolated exercises.

    Topics covered

    • Viewports, navigation and units
    • Importing AutoCAD plans
    • Scene organisation with layers

    Tools in this module

    3ds MaxAutoCADV-RayPhotoshop
    You finish with

A reviewed piece of work demonstrating viewports, navigation and units and importing autocad plans.

  2. Module 02 of 06

    Modelling Techniques

This block turns modelling techniques from something you have read about into something you can do under time pressure, with a mentor reviewing the work as you go.

    Topics covered

    • Primitives and editable poly
    • Splines and lofts
    • Architectural objects: walls, doors and windows

    Tools in this module

    You finish with

A reviewed piece of work demonstrating primitives and editable poly and splines and lofts.

  3. Module 03 of 06

    Modifiers

By the end of modifiers, you can make the calls a working 3ds max practitioner makes daily — and explain why you made them.

    Topics covered

    • Modifier stack workflow
    • Bend, taper, shell and symmetry
    • TurboSmooth and chamfer

    Tools in this module

    You finish with

A reviewed piece of work demonstrating modifier stack workflow and bend, taper, shell and symmetry.

  4. Module 04 of 06

    Materials & UV Mapping

Materials & UV Mapping is taught against realistic, imperfect inputs. The point is not the clean textbook case; it is what you do when the data or the requirement fights back.

    Topics covered

    • Material editor
    • UVW mapping and unwrapping
    • Texture maps

    You finish with

A reviewed piece of work demonstrating material editor and uvw mapping and unwrapping.

  5. Module 05 of 06

    Lights & Cameras

Everything in lights & cameras feeds the next stage of the 3ds max build, so nothing here is theory you park and forget.

    Topics covered

    • Standard and photometric lights
    • Physical cameras
    • Setting up views for rendering

    Tools in this module

    You finish with

A reviewed piece of work demonstrating standard and photometric lights and physical cameras.

  6. Module 06 of 06

    Animation & Walkthroughs

You leave animation & walkthroughs with a reviewed artefact in your portfolio, not just notes — that is the standard every module in this course is held to.

    Topics covered

    • Keyframes and timeline
    • Camera path animation
    • Rendering animation sequences

    Tools in this module

    3ds MaxAutoCADV-RayPhotoshop
    You finish with

A modelled and textured interior with a short camera walkthrough rendered out.

The working loop

Learn it. Build it. Make it yours.

Learn it. Build it. Make it yours.

Every project moves through the same loop: understand the brief, build it with guidance, then explain the decisions behind your work. The certificate is the receipt — the portfolio is the point.

  1. 01

    Understand

Break a real requirement into a plan, the constraints it has to live inside, and the right tool for each part of it.

    Furniture Set

  2. 02

    Build

Work hands-on with trainer feedback arriving while the decisions are still cheap to change.

  3. 03

    Present

Turn the finished work into a portfolio story you can defend line by line in an interview.

The honest pitch

Why this programme is worth your year

Why this programme is worth your year

Most 3ds max training in this region stops at the tutorial: you follow along, the notebook runs, nothing is retained. This programme is built the other way round — every module hands you an unfinished problem and a deadline, and a mentor reviews what you did with it.

That is slower and harder than watching lectures. It is also the only version that survives an interview, because the questions there are about the decisions you made, not the code you copied.

Why choose 3ds Max

Why students choose techcadd

Why students choose techcadd

Two decades of training in Amritsar, in a format that has not changed since: small batches, real projects, mentors who still work in the field.

  • 01

    Practitioner-led teaching

Your mentor works in 3ds max for a living. The examples in class come from that work, and so do the shortcuts.

  • 02

    Small, fixed batches

Batch sizes are capped so a raised hand gets answered in the session it was raised in, not weeks later.

  • 03

    Reviewed, not marked

Every submission comes back annotated, line by line. The notes are the point — they are what you carry into the interview.

  • 04

    Current tooling

We teach 3ds Max, AutoCAD, V-Ray and refresh the list each intake, because a stale stack is worse than no stack.

  • 05

    Flexible batches

Morning, evening and weekend tracks, classroom or live online, with recordings either way for revision.

  • 06

    Support that continues

Resume and portfolio review, mock interviews and hiring-drive access — and it does not stop the day the course ends.

Where 3ds max is headed from here

Where 3ds max is headed from here

A certificate answers what you can do today. This is the honest answer to what 3ds max looks like three to five years out, and why the fundamentals this course spends real time on are what carry you there.

  • Demand is structural, not seasonalInfrastructure and real-estate spending across Punjab and the rest of India keeps funding new sites, and every one of them needs drawings before it needs concrete.
  • The skill ladder keeps climbing3D Modeller is the entry rung, not the ceiling. Once that portfolio is in place, 3ds max artist is the realistic next step — a promotion earned on the job, not a second course you have to go back and pay for.
  • Tooling changes; fundamentals compound3ds Max and the rest of the stack will look different in five years — they always do. What does not expire is the fundamentals this course is built around, which is why the syllabus is reviewed each intake instead of frozen once and reused.
  • Remote and hybrid widen the marketA 3ds max portfolio built in Amritsar competes for the same remote and hybrid roles as anywhere else. Companies hiring for this work are increasingly indifferent to which city the offer letter is posted to.
What you walk away with

The 2 – 3 months programme is built around the part that is genuinely in your hands — and you leave holding all of it.

A reviewed portfolio, an industry-recognised certificate and a fundamentals-first foundation you can keep building on. Markets move, as they always have; that foundation is exactly what lets you move with them as drafting and design work around you keeps shifting.

I joined the 3ds Max batch with almost no background, and what made the difference was that interface & scene setup was taught by building rather than by slides. By the third week I was debugging my own code instead of copying someone else's.
Neha Bansal3D Modeller, Amritsar
The project reviews are the real value. My bedroom interior model was picked apart line by line, and those notes are exactly what I ended up talking through in the interview that got me a 3ds max artist offer.
Tanvir Dhillon3ds Max Artist, Noida
Weekend batches meant I kept my job through the whole 2 – 3 months. Anything I missed got re-explained without fuss, and lab access outside batch hours was never a problem.
Ritika Chopra3D Visualiser, Amritsar
AutoCAD and the rest of the stack were set up on day one, so no week went into environment issues. Batches are small enough that a doubt gets answered the same day instead of piling up.
Mohit KhannaInterior 3D Designer, Batala
I had tried learning 3ds max on my own twice and stalled both times. A fixed batch in Amritsar, a mentor who checks your work and a deadline on every module is the only reason I finished.
Aditya Verma3D Modeller, Chandigarh
Placement support was not just a line on the brochure — resume and portfolio review, two mock interviews with people who do the job, and a referral into one of the hiring drives.
Rajiv Malhotra3ds Max Artist, Gurugram
The syllabus is current. We worked in Photoshop rather than the older tooling most 3ds max syllabi around here still teach, and that came up directly in my first interview.
Ishita Sharma3D Visualiser, Pune
The balance of theory to lab time is about right: enough to understand why something works, then straight into building. I left with 4 projects I can demo, not just a certificate.

Frequently asked questions

If something here is not covered, the Amritsar desk will answer it directly — no call-back queue.

  • No. The programme opens at beginner level and assumes no background beyond comfort with a computer. Students who already have some exposure move through the early modules faster and spend the saved time on project work.
